Finding the best vegan burger in Malta
I like to have vegan days once in a while, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still indulge in ‘junk food’ (duh!). And my ‘junk food’ usually consists of sweet potatoes fries or veggie burger. Semi-healthy, semi-badass.
I tried two places for vegan burgers and thankfully, they made it so easy for me to write this article. I am not a fan of bad press, so I’ll just mention my favourite one.
I had heard of The Grassy Hopper before but I never had the courage to step inside the colourful décor. I thought it was too ‘clean’, too ‘hippy happy’. But it’s anything of the sort.
It’s a really cool entirely-vegan restaurant in Malta. Oh, and their vegan burger is downright bad-ass, vegan cheese and all.
All burgers are served in a wholemeal bun and a side salad. And they’re HUGE. Don’t bother ordering fries as you won’t eat them.
As you can see in the picture, I shared the vegan burger lunch on a Saturday afternoon with my husband, who absolutely loves meat. I asked him to be supportive and have a vegan burger with me. Pulling all my guilt-stunts, he accepted. Bless him.
To be fair, he really did enjoy it as the burger is really tasty. For real. The texture is a little mushier than meat, obviously, but the taste is on point.
It might seem expensive to pay circa €7 for a burger, but the size of this thing accounts for a whole meal.
Unlike its competition The Grassy Hopper offers 4 different kinds of vegan burgers, Beetroot & Bean, Spicy Chickpea, Portobello Mushroom and Sweet Potato & Black Bean (the one I tried).
Other cool items on their menu include so-called Power Shots made of freshly juiced wheatgrass, energy balls and wraps.
And if you don’t feel like leaving your couch, The Grassy Hopper make deliveries now too!
